I don't have a doctor. What services can you offer me?

TIHC can provide many health care services for you. Our naturopathic doctors are trained to perform full screening physical exams (including gynecological exams and Pap tests) and can also offer standard lab tests and urine tests. Our chiropractors can also perform physical exams that focus on musculoskeletal and neurological concerns, as well as order x-rays if necessary. Our health care team at TIHC is trained to refer for other services when appropriate.

What's the difference between a naturopathic doctor, herbalist, natural therapist, homeopath, and health counselor?

The short answer is education and regulation. Naturopathic doctors the only practitioners who are licensed professionals. NDs are required to have a minimum of 3 years of pre-medical studies at university followed by four years of full time naturopathic medical school. They are members of their provincial regulatory body and can use the designation ND. The terms herbalist, natural therapist, homeopath and health counselor are not protected by the law and people with different levels of training can all use these titles and are not subject to regulatory processes. When you see an ND, you are choosing quality health care.

What does evidence-based mean?

Evidence-based treatments have sufficient scientifically valid and clinically proven research to support their use. Some alternative therapies are untested, or have been tested and shown to be ineffective. We shy away from these therapies and focus on what works so you have the best chances at improving your health.
