Naturopathic Medicine
Support Whole-Body Wellness
Natural, science-based treatments address underlying causes, helping to promote long-term health and vitality.

Support your health. Treat the root cause. Thrive naturally.
Naturopathic Medicine focuses on understanding why symptoms are happening—not just how to manage them. At Trenton Integrative Health Centre, Naturopathic care is led by Dr. Alison Cockerill, BA, ND, who believes the body has an innate ability to heal when given the right support.
Using an evidence-based, whole-person approach, Dr. Cockerill works with you to uncover underlying imbalances and create a personalized plan that supports long-term health. Treatment may include nutrition and lifestyle counseling, meal planning, acupuncture, botanical medicine, targeted supplementation, and lab-based interventions. Naturopathic care can be used on its own or alongside other healthcare providers to ensure your care is well-coordinated and comprehensive.

How Naturopathic Medicine Helps
Root Cause Focus
Rather than masking symptoms, care is directed at identifying and addressing underlying contributors such as diet, stress, inflammation, hormonal imbalance, or gut health—supporting lasting change.
Step-by-Step, Sustainable Care
Patients are often surprised by how much improvement comes from addressing foundational habits first. Changes are introduced gradually and thoughtfully, building momentum and confidence over time.
Collaborative & Integrative Care
NDs work alongside other practitioners at TIHC or your existing healthcare team to ensure treatments complement one another.
Targeted, Evidence-Based Therapies
When additional support is needed, Dr. Cockerill uses research-informed nutraceuticals, herbal medicine, acupuncture, and lab-guided interventions —always intentionally and never excessively.
Empowerment & Education
Understanding why a recommendation matters helps our patients feel confident, motivated, and in control of their health decisions.
Your Care, in Partnership
Many patients come to naturopathic care feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, or worried that their symptoms have been overlooked or simply managed rather than understood. Dr. Cockerill’s role is to meet you where you are, help make sense of what you’re experiencing, and guide you toward clarity.
Healing is a collaborative process. Treatment plans are discussed openly, adjusted as needed, and paced realistically. By combining education, clear expectations, and ongoing support, patients feel empowered to actively participate in their care—without pressure or guesswork

What to Expect
Your first appointment is designed to give you space to be fully heard.
Dr. Cockerill takes the time to understand your health history, current symptoms, lifestyle, nutrition, stress levels, and what you’ve already tried.
A focused physical exam may be completed, and laboratory testing—standard or more comprehensive—may be ordered when appropriate. Naturopathic Doctors in Ontario can order bloodwork and, when qualified, prescribe certain medications such as bio-identical hormones and provide B12 injections.
From there, you’ll receive a clear, personalized plan that may include lifestyle strategies, education, nutritional guidance, and targeted therapies—broken down into manageable steps so you don’t feel overwhelmed.
Real Life Impact
Patients often describe meaningful changes not only in their physical health, but in how they feel about their bodies and their care. Improvements in energy, mood, digestion, inflammation, and overall wellbeing are common.
Equally important, many patients share that they finally feel heard and validated. Having a collaborative partner who explains, listens, and supports them through the process brings a renewed sense of confidence, clarity, and control over their health.

FAQs
Common questions our patients ask.
No. Naturopathic medicine is not covered by OHIP in Ontario. However, many patients choose to access care through private health services or workplace benefit plans.
In many cases, yes. Most extended health insurance plans in Canada include coverage for naturopathic services, though the amount and frequency vary by provider. We recommend checking your individual plan details to confirm your coverage.
Your first appointment focuses on understanding the bigger picture. We’ll review your health history, current concerns, lifestyle, and goals so your care plan reflects what matters most to you.
Not necessarily. A common concern is being given too many supplements. At TIHC, the approach is targeted and intentional—using the right nutraceutical or herbal support when it’s appropriate, not simply adding more.
Yes. When appropriate, your naturopathic doctor can order standard bloodwork and other comprehensive lab testing to help clarify what may be contributing to your symptoms.
Testing is based on your symptoms, health history, and treatment goals. Your doctor will explain what each test may help us understand so you can make informed decisions about your care.
No. Many patients come in with symptoms they want to better understand—such as fatigue, digestive concerns, hormone changes, or stress-related issues—without knowing exactly what is causing them.
That depends on your concerns and your goals. Some people notice changes fairly quickly, while others benefit from a more gradual approach focused on steady, sustainable progress.
The short answer is education and regulation. Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are the only practitioners listed above who are licensed professionals. NDs are required to have a minimum of 3 years of pre-medical studies at university followed by four years of full time naturopathic medical school.
NDs are members of their provincial regulatory body and can use the designation ND. The terms herbalist, natural therapist, homeopath and health counsellor are not protected by the law and people with different levels of training can use these titles and are not subject to regulatory processes. When you see an ND, you are choosing quality health care.
