Primary Care Medical Services
Medical assessment, diagnosis and treatment support integrative care and health management.

Medical Care, Integrated with Your Health Team
At Trenton Integrative Health Clinic, the addition of a Nurse Practitioner expands what’s possible within our integrative care model.
You now have access to medical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment—coordinated alongside the rest of your care team. This means fewer gaps, clearer direction, and a more complete approach to your health.
Whether you’re dealing with a new concern or managing an ongoing condition, care can begin—and continue—right here.
How a Nurse Practitioner Helps
Our Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive medical care, including:
- Medical diagnosis and clinical assessment
- Prescription medications and management
- Laboratory testing referrals
- Diagnostic imaging referrals (X-ray, ultrasound, MRI, etc.)
- Medical procedures and injections
- Chronic disease management
- Ongoing monitoring and follow-up care
This allows many patients to access timely medical support without needing to navigate multiple providers or locations.
Integrative, Coordinated Care
Health concerns are rarely one-dimensional. Symptoms, lifestyle factors, and underlying conditions often overlap—and addressing them in isolation can limit progress.
With a Nurse Practitioner as part of the TIHC team, your care can be coordinated across disciplines. Medical insights, diagnostic information, and treatment planning are shared when appropriate, creating a more complete picture of your health.
This integrated approach helps ensure that each step—assessment, treatment, and follow-up—is connected and aligned with your goals.
How Care Comes Together
A typical patient pathway may look like:
- You present with a concern (for example, back pain or ongoing fatigue)
- The Nurse Practitioner performs a medical assessment
- Diagnostic tests or imaging are ordered if needed
- A coordinated plan is developed with other practitioners at TIHC
- Follow-up care and adjustments are provided within the clinic
This approach reduces uncertainty and helps you move forward with a clear, cohesive plan.

What to Expect
Your visit begins with a detailed medical history and clinical assessment. Time is taken to understand your symptoms, concerns, and health goals.
Depending on your needs, your care may include:
- Diagnosis and treatment planning
- Prescriptions or medication review
- Referrals for lab work or imaging
- Collaboration with other TIHC practitioners
You’ll leave with a clear understanding of your next steps and how your care will be supported moving forward.
Real Life Impact
When medical care is integrated into a collaborative team, patients often experience greater clarity and continuity in their healthcare.
Instead of navigating separate systems, you have access to assessment, testing, and treatment in one place. Questions are answered more quickly, care plans feel more connected, and decisions are made with a fuller understanding of your health.
For many, this means less waiting, less uncertainty, and a more confident path forward—supported by a team working together on your behalf.

FAQs
Common questions our patients ask.
Trenton Integrative Health Centre is expanding its services by adding a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to the care team. This enhancement is designed to improve access to timely, comprehensive primary care while strengthening our interdisciplinary, team‑based approach.
Adding an NP allows the clinic to:
- Improve access to primary care services
- Offer timely appointments for common and complex health concerns
- Support continuity of care for patients
- Strengthen interdisciplinary, team‑based care delivery
This addition reflects our commitment to patient‑centred care and community health needs.
A Nurse Practitioner is a Registered Nurse with advanced graduate education and clinical training. NPs are licensed to provide a wide range of health services independently, including:
- Health assessments and diagnosis
- Prescribing medications
- Ordering and interpreting tests
- Treating acute and chronic conditions
- Providing preventive and wellness care
NPs work collaboratively with other health professionals while practicing autonomously within their regulated scope.
The NP may provide:
- Assessment and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries
- Chronic disease management (e.g., diabetes, hypertension)
- Preventive care and wellness visits
- Medication management and prescription refills
- Diagnostic test ordering and interpretation
- Referrals to specialists or community services
A detailed fee schedule will be available to patients prior to booking appointments.
Yes.
While the province works toward alternative public funding models, Nurse Practitioner services at Trenton Integrative Health Centre will be provided on a fee‑for‑service basis.
This means patients will be responsible for payment at the time of service. TIHC is not able to bill extended health care plans for NP services.
At this time, Nurse Practitioners in Ontario are not permitted to bill OHIP directly for services. As a result, OHIP does not currently cover NP‑provided services in independent or community‑based clinics such as Trenton Integrated Health Centre.
The fee‑for‑service model is necessary because:
- The Government of Ontario has confirmed it will not allow OHIP billing for NP services at this time
- No alternative provincial funding model has yet been implemented
- This approach allows the clinic to continue offering NP care rather than limiting access or reducing services
Our goal is to maintain continuity of care while complying with existing funding regulations.
No.
The fee‑for‑service model is an interim solution while provincial and federal governments work toward sustainable public funding for NP‑provided care. Trenton Integrated Health Centre is actively monitoring policy developments and will adjust services if public funding becomes available.
Yes.
All fees for NP services will be clearly communicated before appointments are booked. Patients will be informed about:
- The cost of services
- What is included in the visit
- Any potential follow‑up fees
We are committed to transparency and patient understanding.
Some extended health benefit plans may reimburse Nurse Practitioner services. While TIHC can bill for other services in the clinic, TIHC does not have access to bill for NP services directly.
Patients are encouraged to check with their insurance provider regarding coverage and reimbursement policies. Therefore patients are responsible for payment at the time of service.
The NP will function as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team, collaborating closely and coordinating care with (insert TIHC team members) and external specialists and allied health professionals. This team‑based approach ensures:
- Coordinated care
- Efficient use of provider expertise
- Comprehensive, holistic treatment plans
Continuing NP services:
- Prevents gaps in access to care
- Reduces wait times for patients
- Supports comprehensive, team‑based care
- Ensures patients have timely options for assessment and treatment
We believe continued access to skilled providers is essential for community health.
Patients can contact Trenton Integrated Health Centre directly to:
- Ask questions about NP services
- Review the fee schedule
- Book an appointment or consultation
Our administrative team is available to support informed decision‑making.
